Original Mecha CupCup Challenge, Vol. 2

Hey everyone again again!

Last year introduced the OMC’s new littlebrother – the CupCup Challenge and fortunately a lot of awesome builders chose to sacrifice their cups n’ spoons to craft beautiful mecha for the world to enjoy!

Good news – 2024 will again feature a CupCup Challenge and this time with some new and hopefully exciting mandatory and readily available materials!

Use your best kitchen-and-bits-box scavenging skills, lots of glue and any funky-wonky ideas perhaps not put into your main contest to create your own mini-original mecha-design! To keep it light and fun there are some very simple rules that each contestant much follow:

1)    The build MUST include at least one (1) cup in some shape or form (drinking cup, bottle, beverage container, shampoo bottle or yoghurt jar included) that must be clearly identifiable in the finished model. All materials are allowed – plastic, wood, steel, biodegradable mash – anything goes!

2)    The build MUST include two (2) clothes pegs that must be clearly identifiable in the finished model. The pegs can be of any design and made from plastic, wood, steel, aluminium, Kryptonite or whatever you have handy

3)    The build MUST include at least three (3) bottle caps, beverage lids or the like in some shape or form that must be clearly identifiable in the finished model. All materials are allowed!

4)    The finished model including any base MUST be able to fit into a cube 6 inches/15cm on each side (so 15x15x15cm or 6x6x6 inches)

Apart from the above the same rules as for the main contest apply. The CupCup starts on 01/02/2024 and ends on 31/10/2024. Submission of photos works in the same way too so consider this a dry-run to make sure you’re all set up for the “real deal” later this year

Judging the Cup Cup is yours truly the 2022 Pro Division winner Henrik Thomsen! He’s a fair and fairly experienced judge looking for creativity in design and use of materials n’ bits, overall coherence, craftsmanship, originality and of course any paint job (or lack thereof if appropriate). See below pictures for inspiration (courtesy of Henrik).

Once again there will be an awesome prize for the winner(s)!

HAVE FUN AND GO NUTS!!!

Best wishes,

Henrik “Krumme” Thomsen
